Modern

Photo of a cypress tree on a cliff, its side containing a lot less leaves than its top and back.

The modern mullet:
shorter sides, long backs, no tail;
cypress on a cliff.

Survivor

Big, strong, luscious trees:
new growth on old volcanoes—
phoenix earth, prevails.

Daggers

All over the place,
red daggers in our backyard:
Pōhutukawa.

Together

Our path stretches on
an aisle flanked by greenery—
earth weds humankind.

Subtlety is an art

Photo of a pack of wooden pegs in plastic packaging, with a label on that reads, “plastic free.”

Clever lead magnet:
unsuspecting audience,
subtle greenwashing.
