Flip side

Image of fallen autumn leaves on a green lawn with a path going through it and more green lawn on the other side. Text on the image reads: Slightly greener, a world of optimism; on other side.
Glebe Park, Canberra

Slightly greener,
a world of optimism;
on other side.

This is a poem I wrote at a haiku/haiga workshop I attended recently. We wandered around the park, looking for perfect imperfections to inspire our work.

Keep walking

Sometimes it’s a little better to travel than to arrive.

Robert M. Pirsig,ย Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance: An Inquiry Into Values

This is a great book. It’s relevant to everyday life in so many surprising ways. I don’t ride a motorcycleโ€”can’t even get my feet to touch the ground on most motorcycles. And yet I read it, and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Hear, hear!

I took a deep breath and listened to the old brag of my heart. I am, I am, I am.

Sylvia Plath, The Bell Jar

Isn’t Sylvia the best? I love her writingโ€”there’s something so enchanting about the way she transforms grief and depression into such evocative words.
