Lifetime of stories,

Scenery
Velvety green cake,
plump, piping ferns for toppings—
too nice to disturb.
What was once
Grass, wrens, and swamp hens,
highlight of tourist brochures—
a stolen village.
Consequences
As we lose landscapes,
stock up on gold and silver,
poorer we become.
