Rusty on edges
as nature, areโ€”mostโ€”humans,
except, not as bright.

Gratitude

Canberra sunset during bush fires in New South Wales

A show-stopping scene:ย
nature’s thanks to humankindโ€”
for global warming.

Photo: The bloody Canberra sunset from a couple of days ago. The redness is a direct result of the smoke that wafted into the city from the bush fires lapping up forests and natural reserves not far away.

Summer rays showerโ€”
as if the universe said:
and let there be light.

It’s my first summer in Canberra (yes, in this part of the world, Christmas is literally hot!), and I’ve been enjoying having abundant lightโ€”even at 8 pm.

Coughing up shady,
as criminal in hiding,
looms, bush fire embers.

A few weeks ago, I wrote about the bush fires raging throughout Australia. This morning, Canberra woke up to heavy smoke wafting from fires around the state. It’s been a devastating day.
