Raincoats

Photo of the Auckland Sky Tower and the motorway traffic on a rainy, grey day as seen from the top floor of an apartment building.

The weather descends,
shrouds our city in grim hope,
still raincoats rejoice.

Away

Photo of the traffic on the Auckland motorway at sunset as seen from an over bridge.

Sunset show begins;
we’re all going away
as far as we can.

Appreciation

Photo of a single, budding flower hanging from a tree’s branch.

Puts herself out there;
who will cheer the lone flower,
tell her she is brave?

Lost

Photo of a tall light post and an even taller palm tree against the sunset in the background.

Sadly, head hung low,
outgrown by competition,
lamp post turns away.

Curl

Photo of the setting in the background and the silhouettes of trees in the foreground.

Another day gone,
daylight folds in on itself—
introvert curls up.
