From 33˚C to -6˚C

It was the best day of my life. It was the day I stood at the base of a near-frozen lake, with the cold piercing through every nerve of my body.

It was still the best day of my life.

Having lived all my life in a 30-above temperature, the sudden shock of falling ice and heat was more than just a life-altering experience.

It was the day I felt proud of myself: I had made it without falling ill. You’d think it’s easy climbing a tiny hill of about 300 meters — so did I — but it was far from easy. Despite a pair of normal socks, a pair of woollen ones, another pair of thermal socks, and rubber boots, I could barely feel my feet. My woollen gloves and the rented rubber ones didn’t stop my hands from going numb.

And we had a half hour to climb uphill and come back down before we ran out of oxygen. It was a battle against time and nature’s most freakishly beautiful phenomenon.

I don’t exaggerate.

When ice shards sting into flesh that’s only accustomed to heat, you’ll know what you’re made of.

And I realised I am made of stern stuff. I don’t just survive, I enjoy. And that revelation means more to me than anything else.

And that’s why it was the best day of my life.

Wonder what the hell I’m talking about? Details and photos coming soon.

To Love Returnest

“I’m so glad you came back.”

Clutching her translucent hand, he walked into the ocean.

Alone.

The Secret Admirer

He would stare at her all day, and she would glance past him each day. It was as if he were there. She stood in the balcony sometimes, reading her fancy poetry. Her golden locks would slide off her finger as she tried again and again to twirl them around it. She’d read intently, her eyes mirroring all the feelings she read about. He would just sit there, sluggish and drooling, as her eyes widened, smiled, cringed, and teared. He would just sit there longing for her to look at him. He would imagine her tender hand on his coarse cheek, he would picture himself in her arms, and he would fancy on as she finished her reading hour and went back inside. He could only imagine what it would be like, inside her house, in her presence. What it would be like to sit at her bedside as she slumbered. He loved every minute of her company.

He sighed. If only she knew he existed. Alas, he was just a toad.

Hey Apple,

I think I’m a little disappointed.

I love the 6s, by the way. My spine still tingles when my photos pop out. You’re the best.

But yes, I’m a little disappointed.

Remember this commercial?

“A dazzling display of common sense.”

— You said it.

My respect for you grew tenfold after watching this ad. It was perfect, and it was just what we were feeling at the time. Who would want a mobile phone the size of a notebook? It’s like going back to school — something, I’m sure, no one wants to do.

Then why the massive iPhone 6s and the ginormous iPad pro?

That reminds me: The iPencil is the awesome pencil I’ve ever seen. And that video — wow —  I had to pick up my jaw.

But I’m still unhappy.

Why, you ask?

Why do you have to conform to peer pressure?

Great stand there Tim, against the FBI. Respect for you and whoever wrote this.

But you didn’t have to give into Samsung’s cross-breed between a phone and a tablet. You could have still made iPhones the size of iPhones and we’d still be fans.

And I’m guessing the 21st is going to be a massive day for us Apple fans. But of course, I hope I heard wrong. I heard you’re launching the new iPhone 7 — the cheapest iPhone ever to be made.

Sorry, Apple. Not your best move.

I’m all on for affordable Apple products. But I’m no fan of you making and selling cheap iPhones just because you don’t have the price advantage in the mobile market.

Wake up, Apple. It’s the only thing you don’t have, and people don’t care. People love Apple — even if they can’t afford it. And if you’re making “affordable” iPhones, then you’re just dissecting your fans into rich fans, and not-so-rich fans.

Nevertheless, I’m sure all things were considered.

You’re Apple, and you do what you do best.

I’m a fan, and I’ll do what I do best: Ogle at photos, and photos of photos made from the new iPhone.
