Once in a lifetime

Teesta lake.JPG
Teesta lake, runs between Sikkim and West Bengal.

Last week, I took a break from my routine and went on a trip to the eastern part of India.

It was the state of Sikkim, famous for turban-clad gentlemen and multicoloured bead chains. With a budget I wouldn’t have spent if it hadn’t been an office team-trip.

Nevertheless, even though I was surrounded by my colleagues and their families, I still revelled every minute.

I tried river rafting, an experience I wasn’t so keen on during discussion, but cherish now. But what’s weird is that I didn’t realise how thrilled I was while in the raft. Sure, the ice-cold water splashing over my head, chilling every nerve of my body was fun — and even a little shaky. I laughed harder than I had in a long time, and I knew that. I smiled and waved at the camera, despite my camera-shyness. For the first time in my life, I became someone I didn’t know I already am.

That was the best part of the whole three kilometres on the raft: I was someone else altogether – in such a beautiful way. The entire 30 to 45 minutes were candid moments I’d never forget.

All this, I realised only when I saw the video of myself, being myself. I rafted not only on the lake that bridged two great Indian states (West Bengal and Sikkim), but also through my consciousness to self-realisation.

Hey Apple,

I think I’m a little disappointed.

I love the 6s, by the way. My spine still tingles when my photos pop out. You’re the best.

But yes, I’m a little disappointed.

Remember this commercial?

“A dazzling display of common sense.”

— You said it.

My respect for you grew tenfold after watching this ad. It was perfect, and it was just what we were feeling at the time. Who would want a mobile phone the size of a notebook? It’s like going back to school — something, I’m sure, no one wants to do.

Then why the massive iPhone 6s and the ginormous iPad pro?

That reminds me: The iPencil is the awesome pencil I’ve ever seen. And that video — wow —  I had to pick up my jaw.

But I’m still unhappy.

Why, you ask?

Why do you have to conform to peer pressure?

Great stand there Tim, against the FBI. Respect for you and whoever wrote this.

But you didn’t have to give into Samsung’s cross-breed between a phone and a tablet. You could have still made iPhones the size of iPhones and we’d still be fans.

And I’m guessing the 21st is going to be a massive day for us Apple fans. But of course, I hope I heard wrong. I heard you’re launching the new iPhone 7 — the cheapest iPhone ever to be made.

Sorry, Apple. Not your best move.

I’m all on for affordable Apple products. But I’m no fan of you making and selling cheap iPhones just because you don’t have the price advantage in the mobile market.

Wake up, Apple. It’s the only thing you don’t have, and people don’t care. People love Apple — even if they can’t afford it. And if you’re making “affordable” iPhones, then you’re just dissecting your fans into rich fans, and not-so-rich fans.

Nevertheless, I’m sure all things were considered.

You’re Apple, and you do what you do best.

I’m a fan, and I’ll do what I do best: Ogle at photos, and photos of photos made from the new iPhone.

One True Love

one-love

Over the years, I’ve fallen in and out of love with so many things, so many times. But no matter what I declared my love to, I always came back to came back to tea and biscuits.

Something about that pair, something about the way the biscuit crumbles in my mouth and the tea washes down all my problems, along with the biscuit’s buttery remains  — it’s my one true love.

The Other Kind of Harmony

harmony

For a brief period in my life, I learnt music. But then the teacher showed such obvious favouritism to some students that I ended up hating her class.

I should have joined another music class elsewhere.

Because I didn’t, I had to resort to making harmony from trees and lamp posts.

Mindful Moments

state of mind

Coffee is all about being in the right mind. And in the early morning, looking down from 12th floor at miniature figures rushing to start their day, coffee is all that is in my mind.
