A Father’s Advice

Darkness fell.

He expertly maneuvered the sedan through traffic, and safely got the madam home. He parked, and rushed to open the door for the lady. She looked exhausted but, swinging her hair back, walked purposefully towards her home, as he trudged behind with her luggage.

He came home much later. His daughter snoozed over her math homework. She jerked awake as he caressed her hair. She smiled apologetically, and he understandingly.

“Never, my dear,” he said “be a slave.”

Another short story for my collection of Flash Fiction. Let me know what you think.

I’ll be there for you – Tanka

It was a worn cliff.
From the edge, he looked down — wondering.
What’s the point of waiting?
Who would miss him if he left?
“Woof,” came a definite answer from behind.

I didn’t want to miss this week’s writing challenge, so I clubbed it with my customary Flash Fiction. I stuck to the pattern, words in the sequence, 5-7-5-7-7

The Moment

He waded through the traffic. ‘Why today?’ he thought furiously. People always had reasons to protest on streets.

He slammed the brake, narrowly escaping another rider trying to get through the bigger vehicles. He sighed. ‘Calm down,’ He had been saying that to himself all morning, to no avail.

As the building loomed, tension mounted, his pulse raced, and his hands were getting sweaty.

Parking his bicycle near a neem tree near by, he leaned against the bark, breathing the medicinal scent to clear his head. He tried to steady himself as his legs started shaking.

There! His heart hammered.

He walked up to her, taking the roses from his bicycle basket. Breathing deeply, he went down on a knee and extended the flowers mutely.

Several emotions crossed her face before she said it.

Longer than the others, here’s another one for Flash Fiction. Do let me know what you think.

Whom do you love?

She stood in front of the panelled window, tapping her finger nails on the black mosaic sill. She could see her finger bones in motion to her rhythmic tapping. Waiting.

“Hey, sweetheart,” he lied easily.

She smiled back, and then, stabbed him.

Oh, she savoured the warmth of his blood.

Yet another short story for Flash Fiction.

A Promise, Kept

They had promised to stay together until death. But he never made it to his wedding dinner.

He fulfilled his promise, sooner than they had expected.

Another one for the Flash Fiction series.
