Watching
life passing by—
single soldier.

Once soldier

Cast away: brother
in arms, galloping stallion,
now retired, showpiece.

Bloody-red poppies,
power; it’s painful remains—
statistical loss.

Hop jump and step up,

shoulder to shoulder we move—

as dancers, soldiers.

As war mother’s tears
shedding, scattering plenty,
yet prettier, spring.
