The Unseen Outside

A wide expanse of green
with speckles of yellowing leaves.

Rays of a retreating sun, drenching
flowers as tiny as mice.

Earthy smell of newborn grass, mingled
with browning trees and groaning barks.

Shadows of towering sand, held
together in mountainous form.

And trees that reach for the skies,
green glaring at the blue.

Twin birds that peep from their nest,
nestled deep inside bushes of branches.

Slimy little creepers, caterpillars
basking on long felled trees.

He shut the book with a snap,
regretting the time he’s done
so much in the world left to see
all beyond the cold steel bars.
It was now time to end his time
reframe and recharge his life
and he shed his cloak of shame
that had weighed him down too long
and smiled as he left the fed prison.

What’s Life?

circus

Jump through a hoop

and walk a tightrope

pull off a jig on the side

laugh like you like it.

They toss you in the air

and jeer at your jest.

You hang on to a pole,

waltz through the vault,

it’s all about flexibility —

twisting to their humour.

You have your training,

in swinging and spinning

whether a club or your head,

you look like a buffoon,

part of the human zoo.

Life’s a circus, ain’t it?

Everyday

Work all day –

Drink all night –

Smile through pain

Laugh though vain

Walk like dead

And call it life.

Addicted

It’s not alcohol –
it doesn’t depress me.
It’s not weed –
it doesn’t oppress me.

It’s no narcotics,
It’s nicotine-free,
Just pure antibiotics,
that reeks only glee.

I feel it — the joy,
and a triumphant smile,
like winning a toy,
unknowing all the while.

I’m ready to disclose –
the secrets unbound,
for never will I close.
Words heal every wound.

Of Vanity

She curls up in her own terror

choosing to hide the pain

under a lavish smile

so big — she seems vain.
